La Pompadour Antique Chair
The Pompadour Armchair began life in the 19th century and has been thoughtfully restored and reupholstered as part of our collection of one of a kind antique seating. This carved rosewood armchair is a fine example of the Victorian Rococo Revival movement, drawing inspiration from the elegance and ornamentation of the Louis XV period. Beautifully detailed, it has been upholstered in Pierre Frey's Le Chant des Dunes fabric and finished with a Samuel & Sons metallic braid, bringing a fresh perspective to a classic form.
The Rococo Revival style enjoyed great popularity throughout the Victorian era, revisiting the graceful silhouettes and intricate detailing of 18th century French furniture. This chair captures those influences through its flowing carved frame, generous proportions and distinctive bergère-style wings.
